Two people have been charged with causing harm to an eight week old baby.

Preston Police launched an investigation after a baby girl was taken to Royal Preston Hospital in the early hours of Monday 12 January suffering from injuries including a bleed to the brain.

Jonathan Gerrard, 26, of Woodside Avenue, Ribbleton and Katrina Westworth, 22, of Oban Crescent, Ribbleton are both charged with Section 18 causing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and child neglect.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at an address in Preston between 9 January and 11 January.

They are due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 17 September.

The child, now nine months old, was treated at the Manchester Children’s Hospital but has been discharged and is described as making steady progress.
