Roadworks on a roundabout on a key route into Preston city centre and Penwortham have been announced.
AdvertisementFlensburg Way roundabout is having extra lanes and new traffic lights added as part of a major overhaul of the A582.
Lancashire County Council wants to turn the road into a dual carriageway to cut congestion in the surrounding area.
The Centurion tank, which stands guard at the roundabout, is to be maintained but will be moved to a new spot as part of the new layout.
Phil Wilson, project manager for the City Deal, said: “The work on the roundabout will improve the flow of traffic, and the new crossing facilities and cycleway will make it safer and easier to use for cyclists and pedestrians.
“The Centurion Tank will remain beside the roundabout, acting as a useful landmark for motorists, but it will moved to accommodate the new layout.
“We ask people to bear with us while this work takes place along various sections of the A582. Once they’re completed it will make it quicker and easier for people to travel around the area.”
Work is continuing on the Stanifield Lane roundabout and is due to finish in the coming weeks. Although a number of night-time closures are being undertaken to complete the work.
The following road closures have been announced as part of the A582 works. They will take place from Sunday 13 September to Saturday 19 September from 8pm to 5am:
• Lostock Lane westbound, between London Way and Stanifield Lane
• Farington Road westbound to the junction with Sherdley Road.
• Stanifield Lane from Stoney Lane to the junction with Lostock Lane.
• Watkin Lane from Lostock bridge (over the river) to the junction with Lostock Lane.
The work on the A582 is being funded as part of the City Deal, a £434 million investment in major infrastructure projects in Preston and South Ribble.
