Memories of Preston’s Catholic College in the late 1950s and The Black Prince of Deepdale are included in this month’s lookback at local history.


The Preston Magazine, founded by Penwortham resident Heather Crook, is a fascinating glimpse into the past of the city.

Gerard Kelbrick remembers what it was like going to school near Winckley Square with his strict Jesuit teachers.

There’s also part two of the history of how gas lighting came to Preston exploring a pioneer of the time “Daddy Dunn”.

For Preston North End fans there’s a look at the career of Alex Dawson who was known as The Black Prince during his time at Deepdale.
