Want a free ride into Preston city centre during September?
AdvertisementPreston Bus is scrapping fares on all bus routes into the city on Sundays during the month.
Branded as Free Ride Sunday it means any journey into or back from the city centre between 10am and 11am is free.
Launched in conjunction with Preston Business Improvement District the scheme is hoped to boost the number of Sunday shoppers and cut down on the number of cars heading to the city centre.
BID manager Mark Whittle said: “The city centre is already a bustling place on a Sunday, but the opportunity to work with Preston Bus is a welcome one.
“By offering an incentive to take public transport for free, we will hopefully see an increase in visitors, which will benefit all.
“And of course, those passengers who choose to travel by bus and leave their cars at home will be doing their bit for the environment as well.”
Bob Dunn, of Preston Bus, said: “We wanted to encourage more and more people to use bus services when they would ordinarily use the car.
“We hope this will also encourage people to head into the city centre to do their weekend shopping.
“And for those people just popping into town, if they catch the bus back before 11am they will get that for free as well.”
The Sundays where the free hour operates will be September 6, 13, 20 and 27.
