The M6 near Preston had been shut northbound due to a police incident.

The stretch of motorway between Junction 31 and Junction 31a reopened around 1.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Highways EnglandĀ is reporting delays back to Walton Summit and into Broughton. There are delays of 30 minutes on the southbound side and up to 45 minutes heading northbound from Junction 29.

The M61 northbound where it joins the M6 is seeing average speeds of 6mph around 1pm as traffic attempts to merge onto the M6.

Lancashire Police are understood to have dealt with a man who was standing on a motorway bridge, where the B6243 crosses the M6.
