Sports nutrition is on the menu at a new shop within St George’s Shopping Centre taking on what was Holland and Barrett.
AdvertisementWith the move of the health food chain to Fishergate the unit has been converted into Met-Rx Preston.
Managers Jonny Regan and Lee Yates sell vitamins, minerals and other speciality supplements for those working out.
They are also offering a weekly fitness challenge for their customers in their mini-gym on site.
Mr Yates said: “Sometimes stores with a focus on fitness can be intimidating to people so we wanted to create an engaging and fun atmosphere.
“The challenge area is already very popular, anyone can take part and at the end of the week whoever wins will be given vouchers to spend in store. It’s a bit of fun and could be a worthwhile 60 seconds of the day for somebody.
“It’s open to men and women – so far the same woman has won it three weeks in a row.”
Three full-time jobs and two part-time roles have been created since opening.
General manager at St George’s Shopping Centre Andrew Stringer said: “It’s fantastic to see such a fresh-thinking brand commit to the city. It offers something slightly different to what we’ve had before. Health and fitness is hugely important to so many people and this store can really cater to their needs.
“Our plan for St George’s is to expand and improve the retail offer and experiential stores people want and this is an example of just that.”
