A blue moon will be visible above Preston this evening in a rare event.

The last time we saw a blue moon in the UK was in 2012 and the next one isn’t due until 2018.

However, the Preston weather will have a major say – with cloudy skies predicted which may obscure the moon.

A blue moon occurs when a second of two full moons appears in the same calendar month.

The moon will appear much lower and brighter than usual. Although it won’t be blue.
