Swimmers at Fulwood Leisure Centre will have their water warmed by a more environmentally friendly system.
AdvertisementA biomass boiler has been installed at the leisure centre and Preston City Council claims it will reduce the annual CO2 emissions by three per cent.
West View Leisure Centre had new boilers installed and these have cut gas usage by 40 per cent.
Executive member for community and environment, councillor Robert Boswell, said: “We are pleased to be making these energy efficient changes as we replace old equipment. This biomass boiler is an exciting addition to Fulwood Leisure Centre as it will, in time, save the council money, but also reduce the carbon footprint.”
Executive member for culture and leisure services, councillor Veronica Afrin added: “Fulwood Leisure Centre is an important Preston resource and we are pleased to have found a solution that meets its extensive energy needs in an environmentally friendly way.”
The boilers are powered using wood pellets and they require less maintenance and repair than traditional boilers.
