Major redevelopment plans for part of Glovers Court look set to be given the go ahead.
More than 30 apartments, a restaurant and shops could be created in Glovers House in the city centre.
The building would be raised to six storeys high and has triggered concerns from a nearby nightclub that it may cause issues in the future for them with flats down the road.
A letter of objection takes issue with the “inappropriate, distracting and random cladding”.
David Cox Architects tabled the proposal for Glovers House in late May.
Planning officers state: “The proposed development would bring new uses to long vacant and prominent city centre premises and help bring new vitality and vibrancy to the area.
“While the marginal viability of the proposed development means that contributions to affordable housing and education cannot be afforded, it is considered that this is outweighed by the benefits of the scheme and the proposed development would otherwise comply with the relevant provisions of the development plan and there are no material considerations which outweigh this finding.”
Councillors will discuss the plans on Thursday from 1.30pm in the Town Hall at planning committee.
