A Preston Academy has lost its appeal to add floodlights to its sports pitches.
AdvertisementFulwood Academy in Black Bull Lane wanted to add eight lights around the edge of its pitches but was turned down by councillors in November last year.
They took their plans to the planning inspector who agreed with councillors and residents the lights would be intrusive.
Hundreds of residents in the surrounding roads objected to the floodlight plans.
The planning inspector said “the proposal would cause significant harm to the lividing conditions of nearby residents with regard to artificial light.”
The Academy had argued hoods would be used on the lights and the light directed down onto the pitch.
Reflecting light back from the pitch and other surfaces was a concern for the inspector.
You can read the inspector’s decision in full on the city council website.
