Proposals for a new supermarket and retail park in Fulwood are due to be rejected.
AdvertisementThe Eastway Hub was resubmitted in May by developers Hollins Strategic Land LLP who have reduced the size of a supermarket within the plans, slashing its floor space by nearly half.
Planning officers have recommended councillors throw out the revised plans saying the total floor space of the whole Eastway Hub has actually increased with the revised plans.
They argue the Hub would be competition for the already approved Cottam Brickworks retail park – part of a major regeneration scheme of the Cottam Hall site.
Ingol and Tanterton Neighbourhood Council has objected to the plans saying it is in contradiction to the recently adopted North West Preston Masterplan.
They also raise concerns about the level of traffic in Eastway and how this would increase due to the retail park.
Greyfriars councillors are also expected to speak at planning commtittee to voice their concerns about any development on the site.
A special meeting of the planning committee is to take place on Monday to discuss the plans from 10am at the Town Hall.
The developers have already lodged an appeal to the planning inspector about rejection of their initial application in November last year.
