An annual Dragon Boat race is set to return to Preston this summer in aid of eight Lancashire charities.
The 2015 Charity Dragon Boat Race will take place on Saturday 1st August, with businesses, charities and other organisations battling it out at Riversway in Preston. Among the organisers are Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley and Rosemere Cancer Foundation in Preston, with live music, food stalls and fairground rides planned for the big day.
The event will see several of the county’s most beloved charities come together to raise awareness and funds for their various concerns. In addition to Derian House and Rosemere Cancer, the 2015 race will also benefit Cancer Help Preston, The Space Centre, Galloways, Heart Beat, the Jordan Grant Memorial Trust and the East Lancs Hospice.
And there is still time to be part of the spectacle, whether it be as a participant, spectator or performer. It costs £350 per boat with a team of 17, or individuals can enter at a cost of £20 per person. Event organisers are also on the hunt for bands and solo musicians to play on the day, and are encouraging spectators to come down to the docks to be part of the carnival atmosphere.
The entrance fees are used to pay the costs of hiring the dragon boats and toilet facilities, with participants being expected to raise sponsorship for their chosen charity.
Sophie Saunders, Fundraising Manager at Derian House said “We’re thrilled to be helping to bring this exciting event back for yet another year. The Dragon Boat Race has been a huge success every year it has been held because it offers so much variety. There are still some places available so we hope people will get behind the event this summer and raise some much needed money for these amazing Lancashire charities.”
