This year’s event take place on Sunday 24 May and starts from 11am.

Grace Galdo from Cancer Research UK, who organise the races, said: “In this world there are three types of hero. The first type signs up for a Race for Life 5k event. They aren’t afraid of a stitch as long as it doesn’t last too long.

“The second type of hero says double it in the face of danger and signs up to the 10k. Because when the jogging gets tough they know they can always have walk a bit if they really have it.

“The third signs up for our Pretty Muddy event, which involves a big pink obstacle course.”

Pretty Muddy is a new race for this year where women of any ability can climb, jog or walk their way through an obstacle course.

It takes place on Moor Park on Saturday 18 July and starts at 10am.

There are still places left for all events. Doing the 10k or 5k costs £14.99 for adults (16+ women only), £10 for children (girls and boys) and it is free for children under six.

The Pretty Muddy event is £19.99 for adults (16+ women only), £10 for girls aged 13 to 15. Under 13s are not allowed to enter.
