Wade Barrett has challenged Wayne Rooney to a wrestling match following the England striker’s soft tumble against Preston North End in the FA Cup.

Preston-born WWE superstar Wade Barrett was dismayed when the dive all but sealed his beloved PNE’s exit from the FA Cup.

He immediately took to Twitter to confront the Manchester United forward.

Wayne Rooney however, had a quick riposte prepared. He suggested Barrett fight the retired legend Stone Cold Steve Austin instead.

Barrett, no doubt familiar with Kevin Davies and his playing style, then suggested an alternative.

There is no doubt that match would go down well in the UK, with football fans given the chance to see Rooney take a (staged) beating.

It is unlikely to ever occur, but after Monday’s football, PNE fans can dream.
