Witness appeal following fatal collision in Preston

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a road traffic accident in Preston.

The accident happened at 8.40pm on Sunday 18 January when a Rover 45 was travelling along Riversway towards Preston. The vehicle lost control on a slight right hand bend and left the carriageway to the nearside before colliding with a lamp post.

The driver, a 28 year old man from Preston, suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.

The road was closed for three hours to facilitate an investigation.

PS Malcolm Bell of South Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a man has sadly lost his life and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

“An investigation into how the accident happened is underway and I would appeal to any witnesses to come forward and contact us on 101.”
