Preparations for the 10th annual Preston Sports Awards are well underway.

An event to launch the awards took place at Preston College on January 12 which gave local sports clubs the chance to showcase their members who go the extra mile.
Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret, also attended and commented on the brilliant work of volunteers: “Many clubs and events, but especially those represented here, would not be able to continue or even open their doors if it wasn’t for the wonderful people who volunteer their time.
“Commitment and dedication are required by athletes, both amateur and professional, but they are also two essential qualities that apply to volunteers across the city. I would personally like to thank them for their hard work and continued enthusiasm.”
Richard Ellis, of Preston Grasshoppers, also appeared to talk about how the event had benefited the club when they were recognised as the Community Organisation of the Year at the Preston Sports Awards in 2014.
Nominations for the Preston Sports Awards are open until February 2.
There are 17 awards nominations and tickets for the event cost £25.
