A Preston university has been recognised as world-leading for the research it does.

Now the Research Excellence Framework, which rates the level of research done by universities, says the last five years of work done has been ranked as internationally-acclaimed.
UCLan’s vice-chancellor, Professor Gerry Kelleher, said: “These results are the well-deserved reward for the outstanding effort and dedication shown by our academic community and I’m pleased with the outcome.
“UCLan’s REF results testify to the University’s significant progress in the research arena over the past five years. Research excellence is extremely important for UCLan in its own right as well as driving academic enterprise and enriching the experience of our students. We will continue to support and grow high quality research, which as these results demonstrate is creating major impact outside of academia.”
Professor Robert Walsh, director of research and innovation, said: “I’m very pleased with our REF results as they show UCLan to be a source of research excellence internationally.
“Our desire to create new knowledge and apply it for practical benefit in the interests of people and society has been justified and serves as an excellent foundation to build upon in the coming years. Put simply UCLan’s research is making a real difference to people’s lives throughout the world.
“This is also good news for Preston as we anticipate that our excellent results will attract additional, internationally exceptional academics to the city.”
