A key roundabout on a route in and out of Preston is due to have major roadworks from early January.
AdvertisementLancashire County Council will be digging up the Lostock Lane/Stanifield Lane roundabout in Lostock Hall.
New traffic lights are being installed as well as widening the roundabout to create extra lanes.
Phil Wilson, highways project manager overseeing the scheme, said: “This is a very busy roundabout, particularly during rush-hour. The improvements will reduce journey times and make it much safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
“By providing better footways and cycleways, the improvements will also encourage more environmentally-friendly ways of getting around the area.
“As with all improvement work of this nature, some disruption is unavoidable, but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.”
The Lostock Lane roundabout works begins on Monday 5 January. No completion date has been given for the roadworks.
The work is being funded as part of the City Deal, a £434 million fund to improve the road network in Preston and South Ribble.
Major works on the A582 to turn it into a dual carriageway are currently being consulted on by the county council.
