It has been launched as a way to attract further investment and business to the city.

Professor Ben Casey came up with the design and worked on the site which includes five sections called Invest, Live and Work, Study, Visit and What’s On.

He said: “Preston is a proud city with a great story to tell. We have something for everyone from wonderful people to a fantastic location; from a top class University to a thriving business sector. In the modern, digital world you have to have strong presence online, otherwise you are simply irrelevant.

“It’s about positioning Preston as a city that is ripe for investment, but also one that has a unique identity with a rich heritage and culture. By designing a strong brand and digital showcase for Preston, we can reach out to potential new businesses, investors, residents, visitors and students to the city. It is a tremendous honour to do this work for my home city and I am thrilled that my ideas have been taken on board so enthusiastically.”

The launch of the website is part of promoting Preston which is seeing £430 million ploughed into huge infrastructure projects in the next ten years through the City Deal.

Preston City Council leader Peter Rankin said: “Preston is one of England’s brightest development hotspots and the city has huge potential. This new Guild City website is a great way to showcase everything Preston has to offer – especially to businesses and potential investors.

“Once again, Professor Ben Casey has given his time for free to work on this project and we are very grateful to him for all his help and expertise. It’s a true partnership with UCLan, Preston BID and the Council all working together for the benefit of Preston.”

The Guild City website has the backing of the University of Central Lancashire and Preston Business Improvement District.

Phil Holifield from UCLan said: “The University’s main campus is right in the heart of Preston. Students choose UCLan not only for its reputation and quality of education, but because Preston is an excellent place to live, work, study and experience university life. As a key partner in Preston, we are delighted to play our part – to join forces with businesses and the Council to market Preston as the great city that it is.”

Mark Whittle from Preston BID said: “Preston is a great place to do business. Companies who set up businesses in Preston or re-locate their business to the city, tell us that the area and its people are key to their own business success. Our job now is to tell more people and share the benefits of Preston as a city, so that we can grow the local economy and create more jobs. This new website and digital showcase for Preston is exactly the way do this and it is a vital addition for the city.”
