Kirkham bypass crash: Driver named as John Anthony Flitcroft from Preston

A Preston man killed in a fatal smash on the Kirkham bypass has been named.

John Anthony Flitcroft, 62, from Clifton, died after his MG sports car crashed into a tree on the A583.

Police said Mr Flitcroft was announced dead at the scene around 8pm on Tuesday.

He was heading in the direction of Preston when his car went off the road close to the junction with the B5192 at Dowbridge.

Preston Police are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the incident.

Sergeant David Hurst of the Road Policing Team said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who are being supported by specialist officers.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area or who witnessed what happened to get in touch so that we can establish exactly how the collision occurred.”
