How will you fare in the PNE quiz?
Students at the University of Central Lancashire have scored a success with a Preston North End quiz app.
A team of six studying software engineering at the university have built the app as part of their course – and it has been played by hundreds of PNE fans since release on Monday.
Joseph Horan, 27, from Preston, said they’d put in some long hours in the computer lab to get the app – which is released on the Android platform – ready.
He said: “We had been given a task in university to design and market an android app for our first project. We identified that the loyal fans of Preston North End as a market we could provide a service for, as a token of our appreciation to the City of Preston. We researched and there was nothing like this online, and since we launched on Monday, we’ve had hundreds of downloads and lots of feedback thanking us for it.”
The team have put in a lot of hours to get the app submitted.
Joseph said: “It has been a bit of a nightmare to be fair. Whilst we have enjoyed every minute, those minutes turn into hours and before we know it we’ve been sat in the university labs for 8hrs. We spent a lot of time measuring user input and how the app should give feedback to the user, and this was the hardest part.”
Fans have been tweeting their feedback, and even some North End players have been giving it a go.
The team now plan to create an iOS version of the game for iPhone and iPads.
Joseph said: “The response has been amazing! I’ve never met a more loyal and appreciative fan base than that of Preston North End. We’ve had requests to convert our app to the iOS which we are currently considering. We’ve also had the footballers themselves message us appreciated and retweeting our tweets helping us gain more likes and downloads for the app. The whole team has been totally blown away by it, as have our lecturers.
“We are are in the process of upgrading the application and will be looking at ways of keeping the app fresh for the fans of Preston North End.”
The team involved are Ryan Moss, 18, Michael Innes, 18, Ibraheem Chogle, 18, Elliot Musgrave, 18 and Jess Chesters, also 18.
The app can currently be downloaded from the Google Play store.
