Police investigate the vehicle on Tuesday night

Forensic police officers are examining a car found abandoned in a road near Broughton.

Police were called at 11.50pm on Tuesday to a motorway underpass.

A member of the public had come across a damaged car obstructing the road at D’Urton Lane/Broughton Close.

The police helicopter from Warton was called, along with a dog handling unit, as police searched the area.

They found no trace of any driver or passengers.

Police say they believe the car may be stolen and related to a burglary last week.
