Harris Museum & Art Gallery will be sharing their secrets this weekend.
AdvertisementFrom 11am-4pm this Saturday (October 11), the curators and experts at the museum will demonstrate how they preserve their many treasures.
Visitors who attend will even have their own chance to try out the techniques, under supervision of course.
Here are some of the workshops you can attend, with details provided by the Harris Museum.
Lancashire Conservation Studios at work:
See a conservator at work, ask questions and find out about the care and conservation of sculptures.
1-2pm
Beattie’s Preston:
Join the Fine Art Curator for a look at Edwin Beattie’s watercolours – can you recognise the places he painted?
11am-1pm & 2-4pm
Meet the Costume Champions:
Make a padded hanger, have a go at padding out hats & shoes, see how we roll out quilts correctly and take a closer look at samplers and how they are cared for whilst in storage.
12-2.30pm
Cleaning Ceramics:
What to look out for when cleaning glazed and unglazed ceramics. Make a cotton bud & have a go at gently (!) cleaning some of our ceramics.
11am-1pm
Bug Watch:
Take a trip round the museum, check our traps to find tiny beasties that might be roaming the museum. See some beasties (dead) that we’ve found in the past and find out how we manage pests. Not for the squeamish!
Curious about coins:
Learn how to identify your old coins, touch ancient Roman and British coins and see how wax can help to conserve them.
11.30am-1.30pm & 2-4pm
