A Preston supermarket which was being treated as an experimental store by one of the big four supermarket chains is to close for re-fitting.
AdvertisementMorrisons launched its “lab store” on Blackpool Road, Deepdale, in December last year to trial a new concept of shopping.
It was a warehouse approach with many American style supermarket ideas being tested on a British market.
The store, which employs around 170 people, is to close on Wednesday 26 November for a five-day refit. No jobs are due to be affected by the changes to the store.
A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: “The Deepdale store has actually been a lab store where we have experimented with new products, formats, merchandising, pricing, technology and branding. We‘ve taken 41 learnings from the store and we are now in the process of applying them to our main estate.
“We’re now transitioning the store into our main estate and this means it will be re-fitted for five days in November and re-opened on December 1st. The timing will also mean that this store will be able to use the new Morrisons card, just in time for Christmas.”
