An upgraded CCTV system in Preston city centre is due to be approved today.
AdvertisementCameras and equpment across the city are due to be replaced with new digital cameras enabling better quality recordings.
The city council has a control room for CCTV based at Preston Police station.
Nearly £50,000 is due to be spent on the new CCTV cameras and kit, funded by Preston’s Business Improvement District – who represent city centre retailers and charge a levy on top of their business rates.
The city council’s cabinet are expected to approve the capital scheme.
A report to the council states not upgrading the equipment would leave the control room unable to meet “required standards of practice”.
