Local music venue The Ferret has begun it’s search for the next big thing.
They have organised a competition called Last Band Standing which will try to find the best musical talent in Lancashire.
Recently, the area has turned out some big name talent, including Rae Morris, Then Thickens and Darlia.
Stuart Box, promoter for The Ferret, said: “The Ferret is the best venue in Preston, one of the best in the UK (it’s been nominated twice for the NMEs best small venue – punches well above its weight,) but it’s never held a Battle of the Bands style event.
“They’re usually bad ideas – badly organized, badly attended, bad prizes. But we want to do it properly, with the prestige that comes with The Ferret name, and some top prizes, top bands, top judges, backing from industry organizations such as the BBC.
“More details are due to be revealed, but we need to get the info out there as quickly as possible as we need to open up to applicants and close it by 30th Sept, so I have a couple of weeks to organize rounds and promote it. Trust me, it’s going to be an impressive event.
“It’ll be held every Thursday from the middle of October, rounds up to Christmas, then semis and final in the new year.”
All bands from the area can apply, as long as they’re available on Thursdays and aren’t signed to a major label. Applications can be sent to picturesoundpromotion@gmail.com until September 30.
The winner of the competition will win professional studio recording time, CD artwork, a photoshoot, a cash prize along with more unannounced spoils.
