Repair works is due to begin on two Preston railway bridges in Ashton on Ribble and Deepdale.
AdvertisementThe Blackpool Road and Deepdale Mill Street bridges are having work done to repair damaged concrete, brickwork and repainting of metalwork on both the brides.
David Leung, the county council’s bridge design manager, said: “We need to carry out this essential work to keep the bridges in a safe condition.
“The concrete and brickwork has become damaged over the years and needs repairing before it starts to cause safety problems.
“The metalwork on the bri! dges also needs re-painting to prevent it from rusting.
“We’re doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum while this work is being carried out.
“Although there will need to be diversions for pedestrians on both bridges, we don’t expect serious disruption to traffic using Blackpool Road or Deepdale Mill Street.
“Cyclists using the cycleway which runs underneath Blackpool Road railway bridge from West View Leisure Centre towards Longridge will have to use an alternative route.”
Both bridge works are due to be completed by Friday 19 December, with work starting on Wednesday 10 September.
County council transport bosses say neither set of works is due to involved closing of the roads across the brides.
They say if any closures are needed they will be done outside of peak hours.
