A rainbow over Preston Bus Station

It’s exactly a year since Preston Bus Station was confirmed as a grade II listed building.

Culture minister Ed Vaizey delivered the decision which all but confirmed the building would continue to stand in the centre of Preston.

It delighted campaigners who had fought against a previous Preston City Council decision to demolish the building, but enraged those who saw the building as a blocker against progress in the city.

Since then the Bus Station has been transferred in ownership, County Hall now decides what happens with the transport hub – not the Town Hall.

The city council decided to sell the building for £1 to the county, which is expected to unlock an £8.3 million refurbishment war chest for the building.

We’re told the plans for what is to happen with the Bus Station are imminent, but it continues to be a waiting game for what exactly the future holds for the building.

All we definitely know is that Monday 23 September 2013 marked the day when it was decided Preston Bus Station would stay standing.
