A religious group in Preston looks set to convert a former council office into a place of worship.
AdvertisementRCCG Haven of Rest wants to use an empty workshop at Oakham Court on Avenham Lane.
The church wants to convert it into a community centre including a prayer room, creche, kitchen and dining area as well as a church office.
Haven of Rest say one full time member of staff and 15 part time members of staff would be based at the offices.
It would be open from 6pm to 9pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 9pm on weekends and Bank Holidays.
The church currently operates from an industrial unit on Fylde Road.
The unit comes with a car park, shared by other units on Avenham Lane, which accommodates 24 cars. An additional overspill car park is located 30 metres away and can take 15 cars.
Planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval saying: “The proposal is an acceptable use in principle and would not have any unacceptable detrimental impacts on local amenity or highway safety.”
The full council officers report can be viewed on the city council website.
The plans go before the city council’s planning committee on Monday 29 September from 10am at the Town Hall.
