The football season may have already started with the lads of Preston North End experiencing mixed results. Now the ladies kick off their season.
This weekend features the start of the FA Women’s Premier League which starts on Sunday 24 August.
The PNE women’s team begins their campaign at home game against Bradford City Women.
The team finished their warm up campaign with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool Ladies Development Squad last weekend.
Jade Parker scored first for PNEWFC with Liverpool’s Beth Donoghue equalising later in the first half.
Their first away game will be on 4 September against Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers Ladies at AFC Darwen.
PNEWC were formed in 1971 and were first named Duke of York. They are the only surviving team who were founder members of the North West Women’s Football League.
They later became Preston Rangers WFC before affiliation with PNE Football Club in 1999.
Last season was extremely successful for PNEWFC, winning the Lancashire County Cup and finishing 2nd in the FA Women’s Northern Premier League. PNEWFC reached the Fourth Round of the FA Women’s Cup and the semi-final of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup, losing to eventual winners Sheffield FC Ladies.
The opening game will be at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium,home of Bamber Bridge FC. Kick off will be 2pm and the game is free to attend.
