Plans lodged for the transformation of Preston’s Guild Hall are taking their influence from across the UK and beyond.
AdvertisementThe Frank Whittle Partnersip who drew up the designs for the new escalators and big screen entrance to the building have revealed where they are looking for inspiration.
They highlight theatres and civic venues in Liverpool, London, Canada, Spain and the United States in their designs.
The regeneration of the Royal Court in Liverpool shows touches of how they intend to showcase the new Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the Guild Hall.
The York Theatre in Vancouver, Canada, is clearly an inspiration with escalators incorporated into its design as a run down building was brought into artistic use.
Dealing with a brutalist building like the Guild Hall also has comparisons to the National Theatre in London – which is regularly lit in different shades at night, a feature the Simon Rigby group are keen to emulate.
The plans for the Guild Hall are lodged ahead of the building being officially transferred to Rigby’s ownership, which is due to take place in October.
