Stars from the world of comics and sci-fi are expected to be drawn to Preston in October.Advertisement
They include Ian McElhinney who stars as Barristan Selmy in HBO’s hit Game of Thrones.
Other stars include Spencer Wilding who has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and many other fantasty films.
Michael Henbury who played an Ewok in Star Wars Return of the Jedi, plus appeared in Harry Potter and Labyrinth also joins the event.
Organised by three Lancashire lads the event is set to be one of the first of the Simon Rigby era at the Guild Hall.
One of the team behind the event, Paul Dunne, said: “A Comic con is an event in which fans of a particular film, television series, comic book, actor, or an entire genre of entertainment such as science fiction or anime and manga, gather to participate and hold programs and other events, and to meet experts, famous personalities, and each other. Some also incorporate commercial activity.
“Fan conventions are traditionally organised by fans on a not-for-profit basis, though some events catering to fans are run by commercial interests for profit.”
The event will have more than 30 stalls selling collectibles, t-shirts and much more from their favourite shows or series.
Dunne said: “This is Preston’s first full comic con, there have been small events previously but nothing like this.
“We picked the Guild Hall because its easy to access, in the city centre and good for transport.
“Also, its the only venue of its type in Preston and looks pretty Sci Fi to boot.”
Richard Simkin, head of operations for The Guild Hall Ltd, said: “Comic Con is the first of its kind here in Preston. Comic Con is hugely popular over in the USA and its popularity is going to be making a big splash here in the UK, The Guild Hall are excited to be on the journey with this convention. Preston can expect all the big comic book stars and characters from the Blockbuster films such as Star Trek and Star Wars.
“We want to attract a diverse audience at The Guild again in the future and we are pleased to be bringing Comic Con to our local community. The Guild Hall Ltd is coming back better than ever.”
