Community celebration day: Dances of the world to be performed on the Flag Market

Preston is being asked to get its groove on at the Flag Market

The cultural diversity of Preston is to be celebrated on Saturday on the Flag Market.

From samba to medieval music there will be performances throughout the day.

Bollywood dancing and Irish dancing are also to be performed.

Stalls are also to line the Flag Market offering activities and games for kids.

Charities and local organisations will be giving out information on what they do.

From 1pm the Guild time capsule will be displayed in a ceremony with the Mayor of Preston Nick Pomfret.

On the programme of performances are:

Worldwise Samba Drummers – feel the power of the Samba rhythm
Dance Syndrome – dance along to well known songs
International Society for Krishna Consciousness – musical Mantra Chanting with a selection of instruments including a Medieval Hurdy-Gurdy
Preston Rosettes Morris Dancers – watch a modern Morris Dance display
Quwwat Education Centre – children singing Islamic songs in Arabic, English and Urdu
Shamrock Dancers – tap along to traditional Irish Dance
Red Ribbon Cabaret – singing and dancing with a distinct sound and moves
Preston Malayalee Intercultural Association – Bollywood and traditional Indian Folk Dancing
Eva Fox – the versatile Miss Fox sings Jazz, Blues, Soul and Cabaret
Steel Band – the distinct sounds of Caribbean drums
Robert Ionut Pumnea – modern and traditional Romanian Folk Music
ABLAZE – art and performance from a local Youth Group
Salsa Northwest – listen to the different sounds and rhythms of African Drums, then try it
Salsa Northwest – watch the experts then have a go at the Latin rhythms of Salsa

The event, which is free to attend, runs from 10.30am to 4pm.
