WorldNET is a different take on football. A two-day knockout tournament organised by the Internet Football Association, the umbrella organisation for internet-based supporters’ teams.
It’s taking place in Preston this weekend.
Over 19 and 20 July 2014 at the UCLan Sports Arena in Cottam, several tournament games will take place.
The weekend is a mini-festival of football with teams from all over the country including Preston North End.
The aim of the IFA is to build bridges between groups of fans of different clubs by playing a friendly game of football. They run League and Cup competitions with the focus on the word friendly.
IFA teams are made up of players who are members of an email list or forum and be real supporters of the club they are representing. Competitions encourage fans to play football regardless of their ability, gender, race or age.
Group stage matches will be on the six pitches at the far end of the Sports Arena.
The two pitches near the main entrance will be available for friendlies, and will be used on the second day when the knockout stages get underway.
Spectators are very welcome to come along and support the teams.
