Flash flood could happen in the city according to forecasters
The weather warning for Preston and surrounding area has been upgraded to amber.
The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms from 11.30am on Saturday until midnight.
The chief forecaster said: “A very warm, humid and unstable airmass lies across much of the the UK. This will continue to lead to the development of areas of locally intense thunderstorms, these moving northwards across the UK and affecting different areas at various times through the day.
“In this situation, large amounts of energy are available in the atmosphere and this, coupled with high moisture content, can lead to torrential downpours along with frequent lightning activity, large hail and locally strong gusts.”
A yellow weather warning had been issued on Thursday night for Saturday, but the Met Office has chosen to upgrade the severity of the warning.
Temperatures on Saturday are expected to be 22 degrees. You can check the forecast for the next five days for Preston with the weather widget below, or if you’re on our app click here.
