Back in May we reported that registration for the 2014 Run Preston event had opened. We can report that an additional 2k fun run has now been added to the day.
AdvertisementThe 2k joins the 5k and 10k runs at Avenham Park for local charity Heart Beat.
Tim Joel, Events Manager at Preston City Council, said: “Run Preston is a very popular event and by adding the fun run we will also be able to raise a lot of money for a great cause.
“ukroadraces (who are facilitating the race) are very experienced in organising events of this type, so this years event will, once again, be something not to be missed.”
Â
Michelle Hunt, Fundraising Manager at Heartbeat, said: “Heartbeat is delighted to be involved with this year’s Run Preston. Everyone signing up to the 5km or 10km race is being encouraged to get sponsored and raise funds for Heartbeat, and this money will stay in the area to help local people affected by heart disease.
Â
“Heart disease is a big problem in Lancashire, 1 in 4 people are affected by it, and an event like Run Preston is a great opportunity and incentive for the people of Preston to get out and get fit and active, whilst helping a vital local charity at the same time.
Â
“Due to popular demand Heartbeat, in conjunction with Run Preston, will be organising a 2km Fun Run happening on the same day, 2pm at Avenham Park. This is ideal for those that do not feel ready for a 5km or 10km run and is one that all the family can get involved in.”
Â
Steve Ashcroft, Race Director at ukroadraces.info, said: “Everyone at ukroadraces is honoured and excited to be organising Run Preston, it is going to be a great event.”
Â
Volunteers are still needed for the day as is sponsorship for the medals and t-shirts. A great chance for local businesses to show they are proud to support a Preston race. If you are interested contact Steve directly.
Â
Run Preston is now facilitated by www.ukroadraces.info, specialising in promoting and hosting running events of all types and distances.
Heart Beat is a charity which has helped local people who are affected by heart disease for more than 35 years. They provide an exercise based cardiac rehabilitation programme to help those recovering from heart attack, surgery or strokes.
