Plans for 189 new homes have been submitted on behalf of David Wilson Homes and Property Capital.
The proposal from Cheshire-based consultancy Frost Planning will see the new houses built to the north of Preston off Sandyforth Lane.
Part of the wider North West Preston ‘masterplan’, the scheme will also feature work towards the first stretch of the new east-west link distributor road. This is seen as “vital” to the overall plan to build up to 5,000 new homes in the city.
The company is looking to start construction work by early 2015 subject to obtaining the planning permission from Preston City Council.
Andy Frost of Frost Planning said: “The development will boost the supply of attractive family housing in the area. It will also make a substantial contribution to local highway, educational, open space and other community infrastructure.
“We have submitted environmental reports which demonstrate that the development poses no threat to residential amenities, traffic conditions or local wildlife. We believe that this development presents an excellent opportunity to create new jobs, boost local housing supply, and fund a range of infrastructure improvements.”
