The King and Queen Costume Competition was held on Market Square Saturday 21 June to decide who will lead the procession on carnival day. Each Band put forward a King and Queen to showcase their costumes and back packs in a dazzling display of dance and music. Each band also chooses the theme for their costume and were expected to have knowledge of Carnival and how their costume relates to the theme for the year.
They danced and entertained the crowd in their role as kings and queens in a bid to impress the judges and win the title of Kin. Following a fantastic display from the contenders, the decision was made to crown ‘Isles of Harmony’ as the winners of the competition.
Photographer Paul Melling was there to capture the whole event and his spectacular slideshow is available to view at the Flickr website below:
The main Preston Caribbean Carnival will be held on Sunday 29 June at 12.00 noon. Further information can be found at the Preston Carnival website.
