The land due to be developed is near the Tetrad Factory
A £5m development plan for 51 new affordable homes on a former Preston mill site has been given the nod.
Preston City Council recently approved building on the 2.8-acre site by specialist affordable housing developer Mulbury Homes.
51 units will be available on land off Mosley Street in the St Matthews area of the city.
Adactus Housing Association will make the properties available for shared ownership and rent for local families. Adactus has secured grant funding from the Homes & Communities Agency for the development.
Work on the two, three- and four bedroom semi-detached and terraced properties begins this month, to be completed by October 2015.
PWA Planning helped the application through the process on behalf of Mulbury Homes.
The director of PWA Planning, commented: “The application raised a number of very challenging planning and technical issues, but with the advice from our technical and design team and the considerable assistance of officers at Preston City Council, we have managed to resolve all outstanding matters, enabling the planning committee to offer their full support for the development.”
Mulbury have the support of local residents group the Friends of Fishwick and St Matthews who say they support the scheme but have concerns about the impact on traffic around the local health centre.
