Ever wondered which wine would go well with a curry or the best party wine to serve?
At the Holiday Inn in Preston the Lancashire Wine School brings an evening of wine tasting in June trying to compare and match which wines go well with different types of food.
Starting with a Cru Champagne, you will taste crisp, unoaked whites with shellfish such as prawns and mussels, and combinations like Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc with spicy aromatic Thai/Vietnamese cuisine.
The session moves on to lLighter reds (Pinot Noir/Cab Franc) to see if they accompany grilled meats. Then match the taste of heavier, spicier reds (Shiraz/Grenache, and Cab/Merlot) with the richer flavour of meat dishes with herbs and garlic.
The evening concludes with sweet and tangy Muscat dessert wines. These go fine with blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort, and fruit-based desserts.
The aim of the workshop is to heighten your understanding of the taste match and mixes, help to combine wines with food to enhance eating pleasure.
The tastings include:
Top vintage champagne with smoked salmon
Chablis with Moules Marinieres, Zesty citrus/lime flavoured Riesling from OZ/NZ with Pad Thai.
Fragrant Nuits St George (pinot noir) and Chinon (cabernet franc) with rich pates & onion marmalade.
Warm spicy Shiraz/Grenache with herb-infused Boeuf Bourgignonne, and Honeyed, candied peel flavours of Sauternes with a delicious Roquefort Cheese.
