Cyclist saved by bystanders after “nasty and unprovoked” assault by gang

Members of the public saved a cyclist who was being attacked a group of men in Ribbleton.

The cyclist had a car driven intentionally at him at the junction of Ribbleton Avenue and Blackpool Road, after being verbally abused the the group in the car.

He was knocked off his bike, before being punched and kicked by the group of white men who are described as having Eastern European accents. The cyclists wallet was taken.

The man, 35, was taken to hospital to receive treatment, and police say his injuries could have been worse if a number of bystanders hadn’t interveened.

The incident took place on Saturday 17 May around 11.15pm.

The car used is only described as being a small, possibly light blue, hatchback.

DC Danny Greene said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked assault and we are working to try and find the people responsible.

“If you witnessed this assault or have any information about the people responsible then please contact us quoting log reference LC-20140517-1926.”
