We’re very proud to announce Blog Preston has joined the mobile generation – we now have our own free app.

As well as reading Blog Preston on your laptop or trying to squint to view the mobile version of our site you can now download our dedicatedĀ and freeĀ app.

Access our stories whenever you need to direct to your Apple or Android phone or tablet. See our stunning pictures, find out about events and keep tabs on our Twitter and Facebook too.

The app includes a dedicated Preston city centre news feed so you’ll always know what’s going to be taking place in town – from food and drink eventsĀ to nights out, we’ll have everything that’s going on.

We’ve developed the app in conjunction with Preston’s Business Improvement District – their job is to promote the city centre and its businesses, and we felt our app is great for those out and about in the city or wanting to know what’s on.

Mark Whittle from Preston BID said: “We are really pleased to have partnered with Blog Preston to bring the app to life, we know how powerful the website is in terms of coverage and visitors, this new tool can only increase their reach.

“Weā€™ve always found the timely coverage Blog Preston delivers assists in encouraging visitors to our city.

“The Blog is now regarded as a trusted news source within Preston and we are delighted to be working with them on the app.”

Because of this support we’ve been able to keep the app completely free, there’s no free trials, subscriptions or any of that. It’s 100% free.

Paul Swarbrick co-editor of Blog Preston said: “Launching the app is an important step for us. We’re seeing a lot of Prestonians accessing our content via their mobile phones and tablets, at some points during the day there are more people on mobile devices than their laptop computers.

“We want to be able to make sure Blog Preston is there whenever people want to read it and keep tabs on what’s happening in the city.”

Other features of the app include:

– Send us your stories. Help us keep tabs on what’s happening in your area of Preston, if you spot something you can send a story straight through to us or let us know about an event taking place.

– Twitter and Facebook. You can see Blog Preston’s social media from within the app, and like, comment and share stories with your friends.

– Pictures. The latest photos from the Preston Flickr group are displayed for your to enjoy some stunning photography of our city.

– Videos. Watch video reports and clips from events in Preston on your phone or tablet.

– News alerts. If something big happens in Preston you will be the first to know, if you’ve got push notifications enabled you’ll get a buzz in your pocket and be able to read the news first. We promise we won’t spam you. It’s only for big news we’ll alert you.

There’s lots more we plan to do with the app, but for the moment we’d encourage Prestonians to download it and give it a try. It’s built to work on all Apple phones and tablets, plus any Android phone and tablet too.
