A Preston listings and arts magazine has been given a financial lifeline.

Preston City Council have given an additional £2,000 to the Preston Guide to help it keep publishing.

Part of arts and culture website The Two Hats, the Preston Guide is a bi-monthly publication which keeps Prestonians up to date on events in the city.

Peter Rankin, council leader, approved the additional funding – which is on top of £3,000 given in July last year.

The council have laid down some conditions:

– The Guide must agree a brief for the Guide
– a business plan must be prepared to ensure long term sustainability
– other sources of funding, such as advertising, must be found

The Guide is distributed free around the city, and has 5,000 copies printed.

Blog Preston supports the guide by publishing it on the site and also publishing posts whenever it is asking for events to be submitted.

Back in October, David Henckel, editor of the Guide, wrote a post saying the Guide was near closure.
