Sir Tom Finney’s Civic Funeral – Road Closures & Diversions

Preston Bus have announced road closures ahead of Sir Tom Finney’s funeral in the city centre on Thursday 27th February.

Diversions will be in operation and they expect delays to many services.

As detailed previously the funeral procession will leave from Preston North End Stadium at 12:15 and proceed long Sir Tom Finney Way and Deepdale Road, towards Ringway, down Tithebarn Street. Here the funeral cortage will be met by police horses from Lancashire Constabulary.

On Lancaster Road at 12.40 the cortage will be met at the Guildhall by representatives from Preston and District Veterans Association to acknowledge Sir Tom’s war time service. Then on to St Johns’ Church, Preston Minster

Police will operate a rolling road block making sure the cortege makes it way through Preston unhindered.

Preston Bus say there will be a short period of when all all buses will be unable to access or leave the Bus Station.

Church Street outside The Minster will be closed to traffic and pedestrians between 08:00-14:00.

Lancaster Road will be closed some time after 12:15 to 13:00 and Deepdale Road closed from around 11:00 until 13:00.

Bus Services affected will be the 8, 16, 112, 114 – to exit Bus Station via Church Row onto Church Street between 08:00-15:00 (bus stops on Lancaster Rd will NOT be served) and 13/13A, 12/12A, 88A, 88C, 89, 19A, 113, 1, 75/75A.

19A – will exit bus station via Church Row 08:00-11:00, and 13:00-15:00.
Between 11:00-13:00 19A will divert via Ormskirk Rd, North Rd, Garstang Rd and Blackpool Rd.

88A/88C will divert via 14 route between Brookfield and St Georges Rd (Holme Slack, Cromwell Road etc)

12/12A, 13/13A, 75, 88C, 89 will divert via Lancaster Road, Ringway and Corporation Street onto Fishergate, beween 12:15-13:00.
