Local residents in Fulwood are celebrating getting cash to do up a local park.
AdvertisementLevensgarth Park is a barren strip of grass with one swing for the children in the area to enjoy – but now volunteers have sought out £45,000 to fund improvements to the park.
Nigel Parker, chairman of the Sharoe Green & Sherwood Community Association, said they had many plans for the previously “unloved” park.
He said: “When this started we had no money and previous little idea how it could be achieved.
“After two years of hard work we are now in a position to commence the revamp of a very “unloved” park.
“A procurement process stats in March with the city council parks department.
“There will be a new drainage scheme, junior play area, tree planting, pathways and seating.”
Mr Parker said they would now start fundraising for a second phase of work to include a toddler play area, more paths, gardens, trees and further enhancements.
The funding is part of a £183,000 pot of cash secured by the city council to improve four city parks.
