Road closures to four streets in Preston are due to take place in March and April due to electricity work.
AdvertisementElectricity North West, who own and maintain the power network in the Preston area, are upgrading underground cables.
Oil-filled cables, running 1.6 kilomotres, are being replaced with new improved underground cabling in the Deepdale and University areas of the city.
The cable will run between Crown Street in the University area through to Crown Street in Deepdale.
Electricity supplies to up to 4,000 residents in this area will be improved by the £600,000 scheme.
Tim Groom, major projects manager for Electricity North West, said: “Delivering a reliable power supply across the North West is our top priority and this project will help secure the supply of electricity to local residents and businesses for many years to come.
“It is vital that we replace and upgrade these cables, which have been in place for many years, to ensure customers receive the power they need.
“Unfortunately there is no way to install underground cables without some disruption, but I hope drivers and residents in the area understand the need for this vital project and we promise to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
The roads closing are:
East Street between Wednesday 5 March and Monday 10 March
St Mary’s Road North between Friday 21 March and Monday 24 March and then again between Tuesday 25 March and Wednesday 26 March.
