A former florists shop in Ribbleton is set to be turned into a takeaway.
AdvertisementWhat was Wilkinson’s Florists on Floyd Road is subject to a planning application for a new takeaway.
Plans put together by Mr Panchal on behalf of Mr Singh said: “It is considered that the investment in the premises and the resulting aesthetic gains in bringing a vacant premises back into use together with an important service to the local residents in that area.”
The takeaway will be a family-run business, with Mr Singh and his family working there.
It faces objections from Lancashire Police who say there is significant anti-social behaviour in the area, with some of it taking place outside another local takeaway.
Rachel Emmett, architectural liaison officer, writers: “Following advice from local police officers, I would argue that the area is already provided for with regard to takeaways. I would warn that another takeaway within this area could add to the already existing ASB and criminal activities currently being experienced as it would provide a legitimate reason for loitering here.
“There is an area at the front of the property, facing Ribbleton Lane that would be a likely place to gather to engage in problematic behaviour as it is set back off the road.
“I would question whether this use is suited to a residential area due to the noise and nuisance that would be likely to be generated.”
Lancashire County Council’s highways department has said they support the application as long as the takeaway does not open before 11am.
It says this would conflict with deliveries and shopping activities in the area.
Mr Singh is applying to open the takeaway from 11am to 2am every day.
Wilkinsons Florists are now called Funki Flowers and based on Ribbleton Avenue.
The decision now rests with planning officers to make a decision.
