Tribute to footballing legend Sir Tom Finney at Preston’s Deepdale stadium.

A civic funeral will be held in Preston to celebrate the life of Sir Tom Finney.

Prestonians are expected to line the streets of the city centre to pay their respects to the Preston North End legend.

As a freeman of the city, Sir Tom’s family had the option to ask for a civic funeral.

After meeting with Preston City Council and Preston North End they have opted to do so.

A spokesman for the city council confirmed the funeral would be held on Thursday 27 February at 1pm.

The funeral will take place at Preston Minster and be followed by a private internment service for Sir Tom’s Family.

Sir Tom passed away on Friday aged 91.

A book of condolence for Prestonians to sign is currently open at the Town Hall and Harris Museum.
