Fulwood Leisure Centre’s first floor gym and squash court is now closed for eight weeks.
AdvertisementA new mezzaine floor is being created at the centre to house a new dance studio.
The work started on Monday and the council is investing £96,273 in the new studio.
Manley Construction UK Ltd are carrying out the work which is expected to finish in early March.
West View Leisure Centre is also having work done, with the gym closed for two weeks from Monday.
Cabinet member for culture and leisure, Councillor Tom Burns, said: “The council is investing a significant amount in the refurbishments of both city leisure centres, and the creation of a much needed dance studio is another phase of the work.
“Whilst we apologise for the inconvenience that partial closures may have, I can assure people that it will be worthwhile when its completed. The upper floor gym at Fulwood has re-opened following the installation of new high tech equipment, which is fantastic and West View will see similar improvements.”
Fulwood’s work on a new gym was completed before Christmas.
