mill project

University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) students carrying out a Community History Project entitled ‘Women in the Mills’.

Are you a woman who worked in a mill in Lancashire? A group of students from UCLan would like to speak to you.

Amber Greenall-Heffernan, Naomi Gariff and Katrina Hayes are undertaking a community history project about women in Lancashire who worked in mills. They are particularly interested in experiences in the mill but are also looking at how the work affected their social and home life.

Utilising the Hidden Histories collection from the Lancashire Museums Service, they are creating an oral history podcast that documents the lives of the women Lancashire mill workers.

The project provides everything you want to know about women who worked in Lancashire mills.

Listen to fascinating old interviews with mill workers recorded on their Women in Lancashire Mills blog site.
